Self-Love Affirmations

What do you see when you look in the mirror? Beauty or blemishes? Scars or stories? A mess or a masterpiece? A friend or an enemy?

I've always struggled with the girl in the mirror. The days that we get along are few and far between. Very rarely do I look in the mirror and see the things that I love instead of everything that I think is wrong with my body.

When I see the girl in the mirror I often don't think or say very nice things to her; things that I would NEVER say to another human being. So why is it that I think it's okay to say or think things about myself that I would say to someone else - a stranger or a friend?

I used to think that the whole "put positive affirmations on your mirror" thing was kinda cheesy and I've never actually done it myself. But as I was writing out ideas for this list in my notebook I was struck with how much power words can have. Especially when you write them out yourself and speak them our loud.

Here is a list of some positive, self-love affirmations that I'm going to start using.

💛 I am worthy

💛 I am beautiful

💛 I am enough

💛 I choose to be happy and love myself today

💛 I am unique

💛 I will not compare myself to others

💛 I deserve and accept the best

💛 I am lovable

💛 I am wanted

💛 I am proud of myself

💛 I will be a friend to myself

💛 I am alive

💛 I have control over my thoughts, feelings, and actions

💛 I am always growing

💛 I will be gentle with myself

💛 I will accept compliments because I deserve them

💛 I am the only me

💛 I am worth more than my appearance

💛 I was created for a purpose

💛 I am fearfully and wonderfully made

💛 I am valuable

💛 I am more than what I am feeling

💛 I am created in the image of God

💛 God delights in me

I hope that this can help us all to learn to love ourselves better. Remember; if you wouldn't say it to a friend, don't say it to yourself!

In A Slump? (simple ways to help lighten your mood)

We are in the second week of "Social Distancing" here and it's starting to really get to me. I've been feeling down since last Friday and have had a hard time getting my mood back up.

It's so easy to want to lay around doing nothing while we're stuck at home. Don't want to shower, don't want to put on real clothes, etc. But I have found that putting in some effort (even if you have to force yourself a little) when you're feeling down and out really can make a difference.

Here are a few things you can do right now to make yourself feel a little bit better

Go outside if you can - I've taken advantage of the free time and have gone out on a few photo adventures (when it's not raining) and that's something I haven't done in a LONG time.

Brush your teeth

Shower

Change your clothes - get out of your PJs and sweat pants and get dressed as if you were going to leave the house. I've been wearing my jeans the past few days and I NEVER do that when I'm just chilling at home. It definitely helps me to get the day going and feel like I'm accomplishing at least a little something. It's even better if you put on one of your favorite outfits!

The the natural light in - this is something that I didn't do very much of during my last few months in KC and my mental state definitely suffered for it. Even if it's cloudy, make sure your blinds are up and your curtains are open to let the light in

Eat some fruits and veggies

Drink some water

Make your bed - there's just something about a nicely made bed that changes your whole mood. (it also might help you stay out of your bed for the day)

Get out of bed! -  I find myself working on my computer in my bed far too much and it makes me feel drowsy all day.

MOVE - even if you just stand up and do a few jumping jacks. Moving your body and getting your blood flowing does wonders for lifting your mood.

Turn off the screens for awhile - I know it's really easy to spend all this extra time we have binge watching Disney+, and there's nothing wrong with that. But when you feel yourself getting down maybe that's your que to turn off the screens for awhile and go do something else.

Light a candle

Make yourself some tea or coffee

Turn on your mood booster tunes - if you don't have a playlist of songs that never fail to lift your spirits MAKE ONE!
Bake some cookies - nothing like a fresh baked cookie to make you smile

Get Creative - even if you just grab a coloring book and crayons, do something that engages the creative, artistic part of your brain.

I hope some of these ideas help you start to get out of your slump.

Don't forget that God's got this! He will never leave us, nor forsake us.

Spring is Coming: Photo Adventure

Having two weeks off work means that I have the perfect opportunity to go on some photo adventures!

While out taking my brother's senior pictures I took some time to capture some of the first signs of spring (and also the gorgeous clouds)

Happy Spring!

I'm Learning: To Live

About a month ago, I had the opportunity, along with several other single women, to have lunch with Mandisa. It was a wonderful experience and the things that Mandisa shared with us spoke right to my heart.

Especially this verse she shared from the Message translation:

"And don't be wishing you were someplace else or with someone else. Where you are right now is God's place for you. Live and obey and love and believe right there. God, not your marital status, defines your life. Don't think I'm being harder on you than on the others. I give this same counsel in all the churches."  - 1 Corinthians 7:17

That ties in perfectly with my word for 2020 - LIVE

I spend far too much time waiting around for the next thing in life. The weekend, my next trip, my own place, finally being in a relationship, etc.

This year, I plan on going to more concerts and events, going on more trips, and doing more spontaneous weekend day adventures,

Here's my reality now, though...

As I write this we are in the midst of a pandemic and are half a week into our 2 week minimum quarantine, so going on adventures is basically impossible right now.

But living isn't just have having great experiences. It's practicing practical and health self care, it's getting back to all of the creative things that I used to do and have left on the back burner for far too long, it's reigniting my relationship with God, and so many other simple things that I can put into practice while I'm stuck at home for 2 weeks (or more).

These next few weeks, and this year in general, and going to be interesting to say the least. I am goint. I am going to do my best to make the most of them. (Great time to write and have several posts ready to publish, right?)

Before I go, I'll leave this verse for you as comfort and a reminder that God's got us right here in the middle of all the crazy.

Philippians 4:6-7 - Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Stay Safe,

My most recent photo. Taken at SplitLog Coffee in KC.
As cheesy as it sounds, I cant believe it's 2020. Wasn't I ringing in 2019 just a couple of months ago?

Last year I started a "tradition" that I plan on keeping as long as I am blogging. I want my first post of every year to me a quick little "About Me" tag. Keep Working on Amelia Rose for PraiseFest
I have 2 weeks (13 days to be exact) and I'm honestly starting to panic some. I'm better today than I was a few days ago, but I'm getting pretty stressed. Things are coming together, some plans are changing, but we're going to make. And we're going to have a good time!

Do some serious apartment hunting
I may have found a place...........

Make a weekend trip to KC
I went August 31 - September 1st. It didn't go quite as planning, but it was still wonderful!

School Supplies for OCC
We're getting there. Haven't met my goal yet for anything yet, but we're a lost closer than we were a month ago.

Keep updating my wardrobe
Every little piece counts. I got a soft green shirt from Ross to wear as a nicer "around the house" shirt. And a new pair of jeans and sweater from Torrid. We're getting there.

Chill in a coffee shop once a week
I might have sat in a coffee shop once in August.......

Be more active

Inspire Me: This Season of Life

This is honestly kind of my lazy way of getting a post out this week. But, hey, it's a post and I thought it would be fun to share with you some "quotes" that I have stumbled upon on Pinterest that have really been inspiring me and hitting hard with me lately. Here we go!

I hope that these inspired you like they did me.

Question of the week: What was your favorite part of this last week? And what are you looking forward to this week?

My Answer: One thing that I enjoyed most this week was getting to simply chill at my favorite coffee shop for a couple hours. And I hoping to go to a antique show/fair next Saturday.

I would love to hear your answers! Leave a comment below.

Until Next Time,
