Graduation Post #1 - The Beautiful Unknown aka Surprise!

So, graduation was yesterday............!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and one of the first of MANY things I wanted to share with all of you from that day is what my mom surprised me with during her speech. (and it's Mother's Day as well, so LOVE YOU MOM)  I don’t think that I really minded that she read it, like she said I have it up on another website already, “Out there for the whole world to see” so why not read it in front of a couple or so hundred people with me standing beside you. (okay, so I may “panicked” a little, but people liked it so.........)

Any way, with out further interruptions, here is the “poem”/devotion

Beautiful Unknown

Stand here on the edge

Heart beating loud and hard

My whole world is in front of me

A land full of possibilities

I know you want me to jump

But I feel like running instead

I don’t want to step out if the bubble

Don’t want to tear down my brick wall

Oh, but I hear You calling me…

“Come on….”

Take a step off the edge

Get ready to soar

Mystery and surprise are waiting

Just around the corner

Great things are waiting for you

Just over the horizon

Come on, go ahead and jump

Open your wings and fly

In the beautiful unknown

I don’t like this tug-a-war

Just when I think I’m ready

Fear pulls me far away

I don’t know where I’ll end up

But I’m headed out anyway

I’ll take a running leap of faith

Ready, set, here I go

Now I’m falling fast

Straight into Your arms

Take a step off the edge

Get ready to soar

Mystery and surprise are waiting

Just around the corner

Great things are waiting for you

Just over the horizon

Come on, go ahead and jump

Open your wings and fly

In the beautiful unknown

Why do we fear the unknown so much? Why are we so afraid of failing and/or being rejected? God is calling us to do world-changing things, but we are trapped inside of our bubbles and brick walls. We don’t want to be laughed at. We don’t want to fail. We feel like we just don’t have what it takes. Today I want to encourage you to get out of your bubble. Tear down your brick wall. Take a step of faith toward what God has in store for you and let Him guide you and carry you through life.

Joshua 1:9 – Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.

So, there you have it. Not sure how long ago I wrote this, probably easily over a year ago, but who knows. I'd have to go searching to find out for sure.
