So, has this ever happened to you? You
have this great idea, thoughts that are spinning around in your head,
or you just feel like writing simply for the joy of writing, but then
you see that blank sheet of notebook paper or blank computer screen
and you have no idea what to do? Well, hopefully I can help you by
sharing some writing tips that help me.
#1 – Just Start Writing. - Even
though it might sound goofy, just start writing. Talk to yourself on
paper. For example: a lot of times I start writing with something
along the lines of, “I want to write but I have no clue what about.
So here I am writing about nothing at all until whatever is in my
head finally decides to come out.” Once you get the pen moving
across the page, eventually whatever is in your mind driving you
crazy will come out.
#2 – Listen to Music – If
you know me at all, you know that I am a music guru (or music freak
as I like to call myself.) Music inspires me. A song could inspire me
to write about a certain topic, write a poem, or write my own song
lyrics (which I have done a lot) It could be the whole theme of the
song, or it could just be one line that you take and put into a whole
other context.
#3 – Don’t Worry
– I know what it’s like to have a dead-line for something and
feel like you can never get there. If writers block is sinking in,
don’t sweat it. Just chill out. Go take a walk, do something else
for a while, or like I am right now, write something else for awhile
and then get back to it.
#4 – Writers Clog – So,
I’m sure you’ve heard of Writers Block, but writers can also get
something else called Writers Clog (or am I the only
one!?!). This is when you have so many ideas in your head and when you
sit down to try to write, they all run into each other trying to get
out, which sometimes results in you getting frustrated and confused
and wanting to give up. But please don’t! If you give up, those
thoughts and ideas could disappear. My advise for this is to do a
daily “brain dump”, just sit down and write down everything that
is on your mind and then sort it out later. If you’re anything like
me, you may have to do this several times a day.
#5 – Big Paper – If
you’re writing a paper for school, here’s a tip that helps me.
Sometimes when I’m working on a paper and focusing on just one
part, I get distracted by the rest of the paper and can’t seem to
get anything done. So what I do, is copy the paragraph into a new
LibreOffice (or whatever it is you use) and work on it there.
Well, there you go, there's my "cheat" post. =D LOL
I hope that it helped you, and if not that, hopefully you at least enjoyed.
See you all next time!!!
